Brake sensor Issue
I ham-fisted one of my brake sensors and then got the brake pad warning on my cluster. Pads look and act fine.
I thought I would do the right thing and I replaced all four sensors. I still got the idiot light on each start up. I then lost my cool and spliced the old sensors and put them back on. The light is still on. Can someone give me a direction to go in next? Is there a reset /code in a car this old? The sensor is a continuous circuit right? so why didn't my effort to cheat and splice the wires work? Any help from on high would be welcome. Thanks. |

It should have worked it's what I did to mine. Where did you jump them? They plug in further up, Maybe ones unplugged or there's corrosion

Maybe try a meter to check for voltage or continuity?

Thanks you guys, I will say up front that I did not realize how much of my life would turn into electrical work when I took this car on...now I understand.
I ![]() This is the dandy splice complete with wire nut, hose, and marine shrink wrap, I was proud of myself until it did not work. The contacts look clean, but... I did put a meter on both rear wheel plug in's this AM and no juice to either side? Car was running. Fuse? I did not find fuse sensors listed under on my fuse chart. Other ideas before I waste my weekend?, Thanks again. |

Maybe take some good contact cleaner and clean the plug end of each sensor. I recently put new pads on mine and had no problem. I was able to use two of the old sensors but I replaced both back ones. I read some where here that those are all in series, so if one is open you will get an error. I also put PB Blaster on the old pad sensor and was able to gently remove it without damaging it. I then cleaned each one and carefully inserted in the new pads.

Ther is no power going to the sensor. It's just a ground circuit. The circuit is not completed until the pads wear the sensor thin to complete the ground circuit. So check continuity across the two wires coming from the sensor. If you get continuity then the sensor is bad. Also if some insulation is worn and the wire touches part of the gounded car the light will come on.

I just wanted to thank every one for the help.
In the end, I just pit on some dielectric grease on the plugs and the jumped connections worked. |
