Did anyone tinker with their 928 today?
I searched for and didn't find so thought we could use one of these threads..
I drained my power steering fluid and refilled with Dexron ATF, cleaned the res and cap real well and replaced the seal. The cap dip had fallen off and was at the bottom of the res. Very clean and no longer losing fluid through cap, Looks nice. Then took off steering wheel & greased horn contact and went to work. Took about 15 minutes. Always do something before work lately I have been driving it a lot. running great:) |
Installed a rebuilt steering rack and new steel balljoints on the 80. Fixed the upper door/window trim on the 94. T
|
Replaced the pull-wire for the hood release, as well as the backing to the handle in the cabin.
Replaced (well, put in place, since the ones that were there had fallen of by themselves) the aluminum shields that direct airflow from the ducts in the bumper to the front brakes :) Today: CV-axle boots :( Those center-nuts are crazy-tight!!! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1367993161.jpg Last week I did some other stuff, pics should be self explanatory: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1367993280.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1367993322.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1367993354.jpg |

Got my tank back from being cleaned late last week. Been too busy to get the correct size fuel hoses to put it back on. Just need vacuum hoses to get everything put back together. I think I can try to start afterwards. =)

It seems like I can never get enough light under my hood when I'm working, so I scratched together some canned lights and lumber that was left over from the basement. Now it's like an operating table!
I have not decided if it's pure genius or I'm WT. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1368057403.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1368057469.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1368057641.jpg |
Nice operating table Crumpler and nice 928, motor looks spotless. How did you get that nickname, accidents?
Ron and Brad hope your gas issues are solved!;) This will be a great thread, motivates..going to clean motor before work tomorrow to prep for my electric fan upgrade. Matt |
Thanks Fixer. Your 83 is quite sharp.
I will try and get you more info on fan specs. tonight on the other thread. No accidents in history but I tend to create collateral damage when working on car.;) |
Thanks Dave? Crumpler. I got the e fan in mail and it is installed. removed the AC con fan (wasn't working) and set it up to push air through (1500 cfm, 20 amp current draw) once through the AC coil cfm should be 1300, thermostat works well (probe type) happy to have no air pump and now sans the fan belt. saved 8 pounds O.aA.. Nice product for the price, will test all weekend and update you all.
Have a great night! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1368223545.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1368223570.jpg NOTE: This fan set up was changed to PULL and worked much better. It has been fine in the 90 degree heat. |
I got her running, again...no fuel leak yet. Prepping for brake lines, clutch line, and blue hose next. The brake line fittings are wicked rusty. I have been soaking them in Kroil every day....
|
Good work you guys!! Had my first battery drain issue in 3 years. Jumped it drove about 100 miles. Checked battery and charging. Seems okay. I win today.
|
Spent the past 3 days detailing the shark. Clay bar, scratch remover, 3 layers of Zaino polish and 2 layers of Zaino wax. Also put on leather conditioner and rubber rejuvenator. The car is very shiny now. Tomorrow I'll take it out for some good pictures.
|
Performed the tail light harness mod. Worked great but taillamp dummy light stays on. Why is that.
|
^^^ probably a bad side marker bulb,
or the connector for it is dirty, check along the rear edge of the floor of the hatch for the side marker light connectors, they are 2 pin |
Now that u mention that...my drivers rear sidemarker doesnt work...replaced with new bulb and also checked fuses same result...ill peel carpet up and check that connector
|
Changed engine oil and filter, changed autotrans filter need to pick up fluid, Check diff fluid for level.
|
Cleaned front of motor, prep for TB replacement, (i can't get my pretty hands dirty) replaced my plugs, looked closely at plug wires, they look good and operate fine but are very old (Beru).
Tomorrow Camshaft drive belt, excited :) |
Found a new rear wiper blade in garage. Installed it. Woohoo. Checked out engine bay. Made a list.
|
Too much, too little drivingSmileWavy

I am giving mine a break. Motorcycle tomorrow. I've been driving her everyday about 100 miles a day for a week. Today temps reached 100 here. I have no air cond. but the drive was still pleasant.

I cleaned my starter connections. And finished up electric fan install, replaced 4 big coolant hose clamps and added coolant wetter. it is the original starter and by the looks of it, the connections where never cleaned up in 30 years. Completely disconnected battery of course. 40 minutes spent tops. |
I looked at her, no fuel leaking yet....started wiring up the power feed to my lights for the workshop.

Will do....got (2) fixtures hung, wire pulled between them, switch box installed, wire pulled 1/2 way from switchbox to lights. Gotta finish that pull, and then pull power from the panel....might have lights this weekend! (Or not, if the honeydoos don't stop coming...)
|
Ported my Air Flow Meter and lesson the spring tension of the 'barn door' nice little power increase:)http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1369010841.jpg

finished up my intake refresh, still wont idle, runs a lot better than it did,
|
I took the injectors out on Saturday, and sent them off to InjectorRX for testing and cleaning. Also will be replacing fuel lines, of course.
The rear nut on these fuel rails, oh boy. I thought the job was over before it began. |
This is fubar week, such that I actually NEED to drive my 928. Fixed a bad wire on the radiator fan, cleaned leaves out of the leaf catcher, vacuumed old coolant from around the thermostat, washed it, cleaned the windows, aired the tires. I may actually put a couple hundred more miles on it Tuesday.

Changed oil, filter and drain plug washer Replaced Guide Tube Bushing, Cleaned the pool.
Want to take a look at the Clutch Guide Tube in the morning and hopefully be driving again by lunch. Nice word lunch.:)http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1369178650.jpg |
1.Used an HVAC tool to hone out my exhaust manifold (log) after filing in a few areas worked well.
All but the bend at cyl.s #1 and #5 the tool get way into the header. Sorry i will share after photo later didn't download. 2.Aligned my Y pipe better, off center with manifolds. 3.Rotated my clutch release guide tube cleaned it and applied extreme pressure/heat grease to the appropriate surface. 4. snugged down oil sump bolts,,again. Runs and shifts great, no more pedal click. Guess which finger is shorter by .5"? Joiner accident at 18. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1369266477.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1369266515.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1369266568.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1369266591.jpg |
I think Porken actually ported his iron log exhaust manifold with good results, but grinding iron is nasty work.
I've got electrical work in my future. Dash reads about 2v below the jump post, but I'm due for a clean all the ground points and a new battery ground strap. |
Yesterday....drained my rear end...went to the movies tonight....hope to refill tomorrow night.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1369279367.jpg |
It is nasty but once your in there it's hard to stop finding things to do.
30 years is a long time with just oil changes. See how bad my Motor to Body ground strap looks? Will replace. This wire tool can be guided way up into the manifold. Only the tight curve of cylinder #1 and 5 stop the tool. They wear out pretty quick though. going to US Plumbing Supply to get a few more. cheap. I will start the car before connecting Y pipe for a few seconds to blow out any debris. Good luck with finding the Gremlim. |

Well, she sat for 20 years with the same gunk in her. I hope that goop was not all that was holding it together.
|
pass front tire threw its wheel balance weights, stickons hows that even legal ,tape?. vib caused the brake cali clip (brakepad wear sensor to go bye bye) , pads unsecure chattering. part no. 117.34004? centric parts kit/5..10 bucks to shuuuut up .
|
Don't blame the weights, more like the person that put them on didn't clean the wheel first.
Original fill on the manual transmission is super stinky sulfur smell, good stuff I guess. |
Removed the slack in the throttle cable, full throttle once again:D
Vacuumed and washed.. |
New air filter, upper rad hose, four new bulbs for the fog lights. One was our but I hate when they are all not the same brightness, a touch of the OCD ;)
