Zinc Metallic to same or something better?
I'm still fussing with condo parking issues, hopefully sorted out in the next few months, but parking my Zinc Metallic 83 out in the sun has damaged the paint on roof and driver door as well as a few small spots, and the passenger side respray never was really right, at least has no sun damage.
Since its going to need a fair amount of paint work, changing the color is crossing my mind. Some colors I am thinking about are; Zinc Metallic, no change, and attempt to paint as little of the car as possible. Silver blue metallic Pearl white. Copper, the old 924 new penny shade of copper. |

I've changed colors of a 928 before. I wouldn't do it again. It's way too much work to change correctly IMHO.
I say repaint it the same color and find one the color you want and buy it.

I never stopped looking for the ideal 928, ONE slipped through my fingers due to logistical details, but that is pretty much it over close to 10 years.
OTOH I agree, color changes are a pain the rear, and even done well rarely turn out that well. Most likely I will attempt fixing the existing paint, but as the cost approaches a total respray changing the tint appeals first to a blue instead of grey, then farther out the rest. As for the copper I don't think I've seen more than one or two, usually older models than suit me and with auto trans. |

There is a local DFW owner that has a copper painted car. He bought it indirectly from Roger. He's a young owner with 2 other 928s. How interested in a copper colored car are you? He might be at the DFW breakfast tomorrow morning.

i've changed colors on a car before - lots of work - i never could actually afford the car i wanted so i would buy what i could pay for and transform it into something close to what i wanted - if you have a solid car and you're happy with it and you have the time and energy i'd say go for it - the car has to be almost completely disassembled (bumpers, sunroof, window trims, mirrors) so it will be down for months - big project but if you're up for it make it like you want

One bit of sanity I have is that paint is the LAST thing to fiddle with if you want "nice" paint.

Zinc Metallic -
Hey Danglerb - I've always thought the Porsche Zinc Metallic was a beautiful color. Like you and other members have mentioned, there is a lot of additional labor involved to make a complete color change look right. Personally, I doubt I'd do it again unless there was a very special project being assembled from an assortment of donors.
BTW - I have a gear head friend living down in one of the Houston subdivisions regulated by an HOA. First they demanded that he build a fence so his new (initially approved) storage building was better blocked from the street view. Then when that still didn't suit one neighbor, this guy successfully petitioned the need for a new storage building that matched the architecture of the house. The parking regulations on your own property are even more stringent. Modern civilized living - what a pain in the A$$. ![]() Good Luck with your repaint - Michael
