Craigslist like Russian roulette?

I found a set of refurbished "like new" Cup 2 wheels on Craigslist - sounded like a reasonable deal at $960.

The picture on the ad was a generic one copied from the net so I asked for a date-stamped picture of the actual wheels. The seller has, strangely, stopped communicating. Scam, me thinks.

Me thinks as well!

caveat emptor. Craigslist is a useful tool but you have to be very discriminating and sift through a lot of flotsam.

Ebay is worse. Everything I've ever bought on ebay.com has either been broken or not as described. I quit using ebay a long time ago. If I can't buy it new or at a Porsche parts dismantler, I don't buy it.

eBay has always made things right when I've had issues. I get most of my stuff off of eBay, and most of the time it's fine. You just have to be sure to buy from reputable sellers.

...and $960 is kinda high in my opinion. Never ever send money to buy something off Craigslist. Also, if you can, bring a 2nd person with you when you visit these unknown areas.

Take some form of defense, too. You can usually tell what kind of guy the person is if you talk to him on the phone, but you never know.

Yep, unless you live in a New York or California. Then you're not far from having to take a musket for protection. Gun control.... pfffff

A guy I know saw an ad for a pool table locally. He went to see it. It was in a basically empty house. He decided not to buy it. The two guys selling it got upset and kept calling him at home. It got to a point of threats! He finally went to the police. Some real nut cases out there.
