I had a Syncro Crewcab VW Vanagon, worth a ton of money that got caught up in a housefire. Sold it for scrap.

It is not realistic to restore a car that has been in a fire. If you ever saw one or had one that burned, you'd see why.

It's the heat...

It belongs on this particular forum because, sometimes, 928s are painted white as well. And catch fire. Plus it has 4 tires.

Come on Dudes! What's funnier than a 914 post engine fire, rim still melted to the ground, and owner asking four figures for parts?

Okay, I really wanted this to be a surprise..., but this car is relevant to this forum because I purchased it today for Ron as a holiday present. It is actually being transported to his home as we speak to be his next project car.
Please don't tell him.

Sometimes a fire car isn't as bad as flood car. My first Porsche was a 914 2.0 that had an engine fire within months of purchase new. Mechanic bought it cheap from the owner, and title was clean when I bought it. More issues related to the previous owner and "how" he fixed things than with the fire damage. All in all it was nice little car.

Being from the pre 77 or so point where Porsche figured out how to galvanize or whatever, the 914 tends to rust away, and owners are OK with extensive restoration.
