Steering wheel replacement suggestions?

My leather has been coming off in pieces over the last month.
I tried to recover it but it looked worse than when I started it.

I see a bunch on ebay, but not sure if they actually work.

Anyone have any cheap suggestions?

If you don't mind venturing from OEM, the thicker Momo wheels are pretty nice. Porsche 928 Steering Wheel | eBay

I dont' know what cheap is but I would use a nice basic Momo. I've used over 1/2 dozen of them in various cars. Momo really has steering wheels down. They feel great and are really rugged. I've used cheap crap. They flex easily and fall apart. You could find a nice wheel with the hub adapter all together for around $300. I have an early 928 3 spoke that I would sell cheap. I just would have to verify condition. (haven't seen it in a while)

A cheap wheel will look cheap on the car. I am thinking the Momo Retro will look right on my '86 with black interior. About $350 with hub adaptor. Any one have a pic of this wheel on their 928?

What does a 3 spoke feel like to use? Are they clumsy and bulky or too thin? They always seem to be replaced by the 4 spoke or others. I like that ebay link. I got to stop looking at these posts....

Rob Budd has kits in real Porsche quality leather for about $70, stitch it yourself, just take your time and follow directions. Several good places recover for about $300.

After some time owning a 928 you will start to realize that it wants some money spent on it, and the idea isn't to do everything as cheap as possible, its to get fun from the car as much as you can afford.

By cheap I was leaning closer to 200 or less. I'll be at 200K by summer if she's still running. Can't really justify spending over 300 on a wheel unless I absolutely had to.

Someone mentioned the 4 spoke 911 and 944 steering wheels were interchangeable with the 928 and had the same spline.

Can anyone verify?

Thanks

Look at the Momo adapter numbers. If they are the same adapter your ok. There may be differences in blinker activation mechanisms and things like that however.

What I have been told is the opposite, looks the same, different number of splines or something.

For the price of a used OEM wheel I think the MOMO might be the way to go also.

Ok... Last question:
Now would the Momo adapter for the 928 work on the 911 if I later wanted to switch or would I have to buy another momo adapter for the 928?

Thanks
-Dan

$300 is the price to have your factory wheel recovered to new factory quality by any of the best places that do this work.

A set of vise grips locked on the steering shaft splines looks better than the original monstrosity!
(But I'm not really a concours person)

Only wheels that tempt me, are other Porsche factory steering wheels. Unfortunately ones in good condition are NEVER cheap.

Stay stock, they are beautiful. I never really liked the 3 spoke but thats subjective.

I bought the steering wheel cover kit from Roger about two years ago, just haven't been motivated to take the time.

Pic was taken at the PO's driveway before I offered him $900 for it.
