Wideband Installation 86.5

Hey guys, I just got my kit from innovate. Good deal on the LC-2 and Gauge.
I was hoping someone could give me best location to cut in to switched power?
Leo, do you have any additional pics. of your's, as it was going in? I was always a fan of how that looked.
Thanks.

YMMV, but in my 84, there was an open relay socket (marked not used) with switched power coming out of it. I just crimped a spade disconnect and fused a 5 amp line to it. A multi meter/lightbulb scredriver should find your source pretty easy.

These are all on the Common Fixes thread. Is enough, no?

Thanks guys.
Just getting back from work.
Appreciate the tips.
I will get on it.
Leo, thanks the pics are great. The ones on common fixes I had studied ahead of time. I was trying to see power source you used. Did you have a video up at one time? This would have been several years ago.
I was thinking about using the ashtray space for gauge, had heard the cig. Lighter should not be used for switched power?

Pretty sure I have a couple vids on youtube on it working. As you can see in one of the pics, my wiring was a rats nest, so I just used a $4 tester to find me a switched power source.

Got the sensor and gauge in this weekend. Thanks for the additional feedback Leo.

X-pipe had additional bung hole pre-made.
I did an ashtray delete and fabricated a brushed aluminum plate to hold the gauge.
I plan on wiring a 12v receptacle somewhere else for utility/radar detector use...figured if I haven't started smoking by 44, I probably won't start now.

I used some industrial shrink wrap on the components zip tied under the car.
The LC electronic brain has a indicator light that is used for calibration, which is housed next to the CE behind the wooden floorboard.
Better numbers then I thought I would see...she smells richer then 14.6 to me, but that may be because of cat delete and RMB.
I realize the style is not for everybody, but I think it goes with my industrial performance look.

Dave, under that white paint is an extinguisher that could be
matching brushed aluminum. Zip Strip it!

Thanks guys.
Matt that is a good idea man!

So I had her out tonight, flippin awesome to see dynamic A/F readings in the cockpit!

I didn't hook up the dimmer option on the gauge, so it's pretty intense at night. I've been using my old dim dash lighting so long this almost burnt my retinas out.

So she will idle at 14.7 to 15.1 when warm.
Also seems to be running pretty lean with pedal: average around 15.6 at 2500 rpm and around 16.0 at 3000 rpm.
Only rich numbers I have seen are essentially at cold start up, which I understand.
Fresh MAF still set at 382 Ohm.

What do you cats think about that?

I was going to richen it up, but what numbers do I want to shoot for a 32V street car?
All input appreciated, I want to soak it up like sponge.
Cheers.

Dave,
I'm no 928 expert, only in for 2 years, but mixture is mixture. that said..
16.0 is lean @3000 rpm, how is it at 5000 rpm?,
in the upper revs I would want to be at no more than 15.0 even 14.8 to be safe.
With the extra heat at upper rpms you don't want this lean mixture. You are going to have to enrich a bit IMO.
You may sacrifice a little power enriching (3 HP) but your motor will last longer..
Good thing you installed this. I'd better order one too.

Speaking of which leo, does the wideband cause any issues during visual at smog? I have mine on a seperate bung from the stock one and wasnt sure if i should remove mine before taking it.

Nope, the smog dude even said it won't pass since the reading on the gauge was showing it running very rich. I told him that CIS is linear and that once you get to the tested rpm of 2500, it will get to 14. whatever the normal level is. Guess what, it passed. My suggestion is to put a cover over your gauge when at the smog station, the sensor is ok as all they do is make sure you have one. They have no idea where it's routed to.

Oh, missed the part that you have two. Yes, in Calif, they will fail you for that. Remove it, cover the hole and tuck up your wires. Put it all back once you finish and pass.

FYI follow up.
Running well. I did richen the fuel mixture to get better numbers. I pulled the MAF just to see where I was at and it is on 510 ohms.
At 4000 rpm I'm around 15.8.
If the throttle body is like the rest of my car, I assume there is some degree of vacuum leak. I decided not to kill myself trying to get perfect A/F numbers until I get in there and do my top end refresh this fall.
