Howdy Feller's, Dinsdale Piranha from texas here. If Yall are into custom 928s check out my latest 928 build on rennlist. Its a 1982 928 with a Toyota V12 and a corvette 6 speed transaxle,SmileWavy

it's here, (this is really going to upset the concours nazis!- love it:))

I'm not a big fan of cross pollination of dissimilar engine /car combo's but ..Wow! Quite an engineering feat there. My resources dictate a much more conservative upgrade approach.
Still.. very impressive -K |
I've built a few LS 9xx hybrids, but this thing is off the charts.... If Porsche grew a pair, this is the platform they would build....

I would have put it in a 911 myself!
|
What a ridiculous waste of money, time, and energy. I love it :)

These people that destroy the integrity of these great cars should be taken out and shot;)
(it is a total disgrace to see the power, performance handling economy and reliability improved to such superb - but insane levels!! more grunt than a hippo with haemorrhoids :D ) |
I would still like to see a Ford Mod motor, maybe a Coyote, but I'm not sure more than 400 rwhp will be as much fun as a bit less, just a straight line dragster.
|
The Ford Mod or Coyotes would be an easier swap for sure. You just need the detachable auto bell housing and an adapter plate.

what is the weight and distribution? |

I tend to agree, Porsche is forward thinking, V12 is an old school compromise solution. It would most likely be a turbo V8 from Porsche.
|
Yeah, I guess I shouldn't be looking at the Mercedes V12 bi-turbo as a swap candidate.

engine, transmission, suspension brake design has improved 1000% since then. the forward thinking might have kept them competitive into the nineties (last 928 built was 20 years ago, long time in automotive tech.) the 928 in standard factory spec, is a getting to be a primitive car by todays standards(....WOW! floating brake callipers! Porsche thought they were adequate stoppers back then, you really should drive one with a bit of modern technology thrown in, It will change your mind. Smooth, reliable, quiet, -until about 2500 rpm:)Torque monsters :D the fact that the engine is made in Japan does not make it second rate, look up the spec's of the V12, Porsche never built a V8 engine that good. back to my question, what is the weight distribution, V12 front, Corvette rear end? Toyota V12 Century, Toyota V12 engine, Toyota Century |
Hey Plex, we haven't weighed the car yet as we are still doing a few things. We now have full sequential injection AND ignition as well as having the VVTi now working....MS3 pro makes it possible.
The front end lost a total of 100 Lbs and the rear gained 40 lbs from the weights of engine and trans themselves. When I finish out my V12-Vette trans build, it will drop another 150-200 lbs from interior. My LS1-928 would crap on even a mildly modded 928 engine with its archaic fuel inj. system and intake system. Of idle, the 1GZ V12 torque equals the LS1 torque at 4500 rpm.... Think about that one.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vy0eWHuWmnk&feature=youtu.be As far as braking technology, the factory 928 brakes are....factory... The LS-928 swap I adapted Lexus monoblocks to properly put the stop to.... http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l9...ps949df26c.jpg http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l9...pse4507b6f.jpg http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l9...ps308d23de.jpg http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l9...ps6606b9ec.jpg http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l9...psbfb290f4.jpg 16" *993 wheels fit the Boxster-S rotors with this caliper...... http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l9...psa04411bc.jpg |
I had a set of those callipers from my Lexus half clip, unfortunately they would not fit on 1982 suspension.
I bought a set of the spacers from you a couple of years back that sets it up for 330 Cayenne rotors etc. -IT STOPS! 3Uz and 5 speed auto at the front weighed in about 50 pound lighter than the Porsche engine on its own, on my bathroom scales the transaxle (from memory) was about 260 pounds, borgewarner LSD replacement was about 40 pounds.3036 pound total, No attempt to reduce weight anywhere else. Balance came out at 53% front 47% rear. that was with 10 litres fuel, (about 2 gallons) and no space saver, so with a tank full and a real full size spare would be back to about 50/50 (space saver would not fit over your brake kit and I'd NEVER use a space saver anyway) Solid front bar with 2 adjusting points and adjustable drop links, it goes, handles and stops. It is OK to update a 928, they are beautiful looking cars, Why not make them go better? If it improves it, use it. Keep the V12 pic's coming. Russ |

Like the air- in, looks like you might be able to close a lump free hood on it.
