transmission fuild leak

Hi!
I have a transmission filter gasket leak on my 86 928s so I'm replacing the gasket and filter, can anyone recommend a ATF type or brand?

Do a search here or Rennlist.com. Alot of talk about Red line, Mobile 1, and Castro (synthetic type) but I have a 1980 and not sure what route I'm taking. Still have a few months to think about it.

I use Castrol Dex/Merc. More than likely not going to fix your leak. Known issue is the pump seal and only way to replace is to remove the Transaxle.

I suggest to use the Valvoline max life it comes in a red bottle,
works great in the power steering as well

Thanks for the recommendations! I see Castro comes up often, I'll check out the others, Is everyone draining the converter as well each time?

You might as well drain the convertor, otherwise you still have a lot of old fluid in there.
Make sure you do not over tighten the pan gasket or it will leak.

Ditto, no need to recirc old dirty fluid with your new.

Also, while car is warm and running, get under the car (jack stands, of course) and see exactly where the leak is. On the 3 speeds, if it leaks right through the converter, then my original diagnosis will be correct.
