normal headlight switch operation

sorting out all the switches and their lights - if I turn the headlight switch to parking or full on with ignition off all lights in panel and switches come on except the headlight switch - if I turn ignition on the headlight switch lights up even if headlights are switched off - so the headlight switch is lit at all times when car is driven ? - is this normal and how it should work ?

I'm not 100% sure but I think this is normal so you can see the headlight switch at night before you turn them on. Not really relevant to those who are used to their car I guess.

It is designed to work this way - it is the most commonly burned out pod switch bulb - because it is always on when the car is running. Its sole purpose is to help you see where the switch is.

You have other indicators to show your markers (only) are on and at least on some H4/H5 lights - little tell tale domes on top of the headlamp lenses to reflect back status.

speaking of bulbs - when I was checking all these bulbs I found the one that lights when the fuel is low was out - I figured I'd go ahead and replace it (since the pod and cluster were out already) - well to get to this one you have to actually open the cluster and remove the gauge - then the bulb is soldered to a small board that's attached to the gauge with 2 nuts - I had a laugh with the wife when we thought of someone taking their car in to get this bulb replaced and getting a $400-$500 bill

That isn't the case with the later pods - strange they did this...?
