hard starting

Seeking some help on my 85 928 just in the last week it takes about 10-15 minutes to get it started in the morning after that she's fine all day. All it does is turn over, once started it runs and idles fine.

Tried again today after 5min of trying turned the key the pump turned on and started right up. Would it be the pump relay ? should the pump sound everytime I turn the key ?

Bypass your relay, and see if it starts every time or problem is gone. If it works replace it. If the pressure in the fuel line is were it needs to be you won't hear it and it's hard to hear it while cranking.

Pretty sure turning the key with no fuel pump sound means something is wrong. The car isn't going to start without fuel pressure, what I am not certain of is when in the starting sequence the pump turns on. Could be ON, could be START, could be after signal from the crank position sensor.

I see what your saying, but it's funny all day after that it starts up perfect. I just thought after a long period of time like overnight the pump would prime as son as you turn the key on.

Temp II sensor can cause hard starting and then once it's warm, engine will start and run fine all day. Just one of a thousand different symptoms that a bad temp II can cause.

I just fixed the same problem with mine. It would not start at all in the morning or any other time of day as long as it was the first start up) unless I gave it a shot of ether. the battery would die before it would start. Once I sprayed ether into it and it started, no problem all day. I thought it would get better as spring rolled around, but it did not. I decided I'd better tackle it. I replaced the cold start injector and still no fix.

It was the thermo temp switch that sits in the center front of the engine at the coolant housing.

I'll take a picture of it in the morning. the connector plug and the switch are mounted horizontally. It is not mounted upright like the temp II switch right above it.

Perfect starts now.
