What's this?!

Before digging deeper, I thought I'd ask for some help. Does anyone know where this connects/came from? The temp slider came out and this wasn't too far behind:

when its dark turn on the parking lights,
and turn up the pod lights,
this piece will glow its the flexible light cable for the selector knob and it has broken off.

These slide into the rear of the knobs .
NOTE do not try to remove the knobs unless you want to buy new ones

Thanks so much, Mr. Merlin. Unfortunately, it looks like I'll be in the market for at least one slider.

you can take the HVAC head covers off and fish out the broken fibers out of the knobs,
then slide the remaining cable into the knob a dab of glue should hold it.
NOTE you may have to rerout the cable so it has a bit of free play inside the HVAC head
