Why I love this forum!

So, I have my 928S4 up on the lift while I wait for new motor mounts and also replace my oil pan gasket. After cruising around this forum I decided to check my flex plate since I have an automatic. Something I would have never known about if it wasn't for all the dedicated people who take their time to take pictures and post their knowledge on this forum.

After dropping the exhaust down a bit and removing a few bolts, I gained access to the flex plate. It "looked" good, but I put a straight edge on it only to discover it was putting pressure on my engine.
Here is the before pic:

I had a heck of a time getting the hex bolt loose. I soaked in Liquid Wrench, tried all sorts of things, made a tool out of cutting a spare 8mm allen wrench, and then applied some heat. That did the trick!

Here is the tool I made:

Once slightly loose, the flex plate popped perfectly flat and in place. I took out another straight edge and confirmed:

Again, I would have never known what or how to check this if it were not for this forum.

Thank you,
Bob

now I would do a crankshaft end play check while you have it apart - there is a good write up here CRANKSHAFT END PLAY & THRUST BEARING HEALTH
how to do that - also you might want to get a proper tool to remove and tighten that clamp hex head bolt in and out - if you strip that out it's a REAL pain to drill it out - I know all about that from a 944 - and they come in handy for many jobs on these cars - harbor freight has a set of long metric allen bits for about $10

dont forget that to do this properly also includes removing the rear pinch bolt and inspect the shaft cutout to see if its centered,
NOTE If the bolt has shank damage it should be replaced the torque spec is 66 ft/lbs add a drop of blue thread locker to the threads of the bolt

Hey Bob
Good to see someone so close. Let me know if you need any local help. We have a small but active group in North Atlanta that gets together in all of the warm months.

Yes, buy a quality set of allen and torx bits. Your knuckles will thank you for it.

Plus, I doubt you're going to get anywhere close to 66 ft/lbs torque with that 1/4 inch adapter in the equation.

Good luck, with the rest of your repairs.

Brian.

Ditto.
You need 3/8 and 1/2 ratchets for most of the work on the car. Sockets, extensions, and allen heads too.
