I've been using a silicone based lube...works well and doesn't seem to attract dust.

I read on LandsharkOZ that wax lubricant works well, such as bicycle chain lubricant. It goes on wet but dries to a wax. I purchased some through Amazon, but have yet to try it out. Search Amazon for "Finish Line Ceramic WAX Bicycle Chain Lube".

You have to clean the cables by removing mechanism if you want it to work right. 40 year old grease on those cables

I was thinking the same , I have not really used the Sunroof yet except to replace the Switch since I got this one . Did nothing until I changed out the switch . I noted the Roof slides Ok but slowly and thoiught perhaps I should Lube it up first .

The Wax Type Lube sounds Interesting have not heard of such before humm
Before replacing the switch I did pull the Motor Cover and check out the Motor .
I expect the shop Manual has a Procedure to get to the cables .
Perhaps someone could Post it here that would be great .
Tks all for the Tips

Not an answer to your question but I had my seats out recently to clean the carpets and I lubed the threaded rod that moves the seat base back and forth, made a huge difference.

A good synthetic based lube should work fine. For our Mercedes W204 project car it called for specific MB lube, which costs a lot as it's only offered in a big jug. We used a synthetic based lube with great results. Otherwise, we do have that VW/Audi lube HERE.

No, got lucky. A neighbor is a dealer tech @ Toyota and he had a partial tube of their lube- saved a buck, otherwise I would have used the VW/ Audi lube.
