Tire size question

Hi,
Does anyone use 18" wheels? If so, does it effect the handling?
Thanks,
Tim

I read somewhere on this forum not to use 18's. Will try to find the post. I have 17's and have no complaints.

I just put a new set of Hankook Ventus tires on stock rims. It handles just fine. I went to Tirerack in South Bend, In., major tire retailer. They do a good job, hand tork the nuts, check everything. This place is immense in size, very professional operation.

On the 928.org.uk site posted above is this statement: Porsche say they do not approve 18" wheels on the 928 yet all current Porsche models can be bought with 18" as standard equipment so one suspects that if Porsche was still producing the 928 it would be available with 18" wheels.

I have 19" wheels on my GTS.

I feel that a lot of the technologies employed in the 928 have been upgraded since the car was built and especially since it was designed. Brakes are better on more modern cars. Tires are better. Wheels are better. If Porsche had continued building and improving 928s, they probably would be turbo'ed and have bigger wheels.

You are correct. Lots of new innovations have been made. It is difficult to make our old 928's competitive with the new cars, like Corvette, BWM, others. I tend to like the car for what it is and it still is a great car. Not as fast, but still looks great, handles extremely well and fun to drive. Not many out on the road and people wonder what it is. Actually I think it looks better than many of the newer cars. Not bad for a 30 year old car.

I have been using 19"s for years. It does turn in a little quicker and feels tighter but.... Sidewalls are stupid low,(everything in the road is potential damage) the ride is much harsher, and tires are more expensive. All in all I wish a had a nice set of 17's again.

Just got 18" Panamera 5-spokes mounted with Kumho Ecsta 4XII's. Together with the Bilstein shocks installed last September, the car nows feels taut and handles nicely without being harsh. Highly recommended.

I had a set of 18" turbo twists on mine. I didn't like them that much though. I prefer a set of 16" D90's. cheaper tires are a bonus. lol

My next jump to "good tires" will be to find the best tire I like, a combination of performance, availability, and price, then buy a set of wheels to fit the most available size.
