cruise control

well the cruise control on this car has never worked - i might drive it out to california this summer so i'd sure like to have one - i've tested all the functions of the car side of things per the manual and they all check out ok - so that leaves the module box - i have 2 of them.. one from the 79 and one from the 84 - the 84 one will accelerate the car but not hold the speed - the 79 one will work sporadically and will hold the speed for a little bit then gradually slow down - so is there a way to test these boxes? - i bought one online but it also being 30 years old didn't work either - the problem with buying stuff from junk yards is they say it was working when removed but how do they know? - if the car was running it probably wouldn't be getting parted - so should i be looking for a different box - will one from different model or manufacturer (say mercedes or vw) work - anybody out there have a known working one? - i've tried reflowing the solder on half of one of these (about 3 million joints) but no difference

I had him do 5 units, but one of them was too far gone to fix,
but all the others were brought back to life.

hey danglerb - yea mine worked sporadically - but now it works every time - pretty cool - i think cruise is very helpful when you're driving long stretches of highway - i find my speed just tends to creep up or down if i'm not watching the speedo very carefully - helps avoid those pesky speeding tickets
