Oil pump Seal replacement

Hi All, Long time listener, first time poster.

I bought an 87 944 turbo a few weeks ago reasonably cheap, I assumed the low purchase price would come with a few issues and it seems like the car was neglected for a while and had some shoddy repairs done.

I found a leaking power steering rack so I stripped it and replaced the seals, while putting it back I discovered that their is oil coming from the front of the engine, I'm assuming it's the oil pump seal as a quick internet search seems to suggest that and just looking at the area where the oil is coming from pretty much confirms that.

I took a look at the process to change the oil pump seal and it requires a lot of effort, I have no problem with doing the work I was just wondering how much of the work suggested by the Pelican parts repair guides is actually required and if anyone has suggestions on other things to check/change while I'm changing the seal?

I'm assuming the timing belt, balance shaft belt, water pump and sump (Oil pan) gaskets should be changed at the same time, any other suggestions? The car also has a 3 part cross-member and I was wondering if I anyone has any experience with changing the sump (oil pan) on a car with the 3 part cross-member.

1. clean the AOS and (maybe) update it to the newer style if possible:

2. install an oil pan baffle while you have the oil pan off:
