a/c compressor install problems

I bought a new Denso compressor for the a/c and verified the part number. After servicing the unit prior to install I started having issues with getting it to fit. I micrometered the mounts and found the mounting ears were 1 mm too wide so I carefully dressed them to snugly fit. Still after two days of effort, I still can't get the bolts to go in. There appeared to be some interference spots at the top so I filed them down and I still can't get the bolts to go in. Am I the only one who has encountered this or is it a common issue with compressor replacement?

I've gone over the parts diagrams and pictures and watched videos so I'm still at a loss for where the problem might be.

Not had this issue with many compressors.

Have you tapped out the sliding bushing to allow for the compressor to fit?

I have not. The bolts go through easily but alignment seems to be the constant issue. The lateral position seems to be haunting me. I've given up for a few days to collect my thoughts and see if anyone else has dealt with this problem.

i dont remember, but does the late 944 bracket have the "metal sleeves" that slide back/forth?
you knock them back to "wide" spacing, slide in the compressor, and threading in the bolt draws it tight.

like an alternator bushing.

yes there is a tensioner bolt on the bottom that controls the lateral spacing.

Not that, I'm referring to bushings in the accessory bracket, that mate up to the hanging ears on top of the compressor.

can you post a photo of what you're seeing?

are you sure you're not trying to install it upside-down? notice there are 'ears' on both top and bottom in this diagram:

Yes, I'm sure it's not upside down. The measurements between the ears are different than the proper mount. I plan to remove the hose to the condenser and try again. It's just to damn hot in the garage right now. I'd post a picture but it's too cramped, dark and trying to hold it up while trying to take a pic just won't work.

are you sure you have the right compressor for your car, or the right AC bracket?
the early vs late(82-85 vs 85.5+) are slightly different spacing.

I am, I checked the part number before I ordered it.

compressor install SOLVED

I was finally to get the compressor in after I removed the hose to the condenser and hammering the rear mount sleeve to were it didn't interfere with the mounting ears on the compressor. SmileWavy
