Brakes, Porsche logo color?

I’m contemplating whether or not to sand off the paint on the Porsche logo. This is a tough decision. I’ve been vacillating this over the last couple of beers and shots and I have not been able to come to a conclusion. I reach for the 220 grit wet/dry sandpaper and it yearns for me not to scratch off the perfect Cerakote black glacier finish that gently caresses the undeniably perfect curvatures of the Porsche logo. Then my logical mind takes over and I realize that the factory wanted to have that beautiful bare bottom aluminum showing through. what shall I do what shall I do?

Flat file and go for it. The paint looks good but bare aluminum Porsche looks so right IMHO.
I’m considering the same upgrade for my car
I have a set of 928S4 calipers and want to
put them on my 2001 RS4.

what i did on my cam tower years ago after painting was have a machine shop mill the PORSCHE letters (with their cylinder head surfacing machine) and horizontal bars to fresh aluminum, then cleared over that. looked great and the letters had some shine to them, and no surrounding paint was harmed.

that was 15 years ago so the surrounding cheap paint succumbed to heat and time and peeled off but you can see what i mean about the letters.

+1 on sand it off and clearcoat if you want the best of both worlds.

If you want to make your calipers pretty. A word to the wise, from the unwise. Reuse all the seals, pistons, unless they are shot, and scraper seals and don't remove the scrapers. If you remove the scrapers some will get screwed up for sure. You can remove the seals if you like to inspect them. If you want to replace the scrapers you can purchase Centric seals and scraper kits but I have found the Centric scrapers to have too small of an O.D to press fit into the bores properly!! I think they will fall out. Might use some Loctite bearing retainer, but not sure at this point yet. Now I'm concerned about the pressure seals being correct if the scrapers don't fit properly!!! Plus Centric does not make the 44mm scraper so you need to purchase the entire piston/scraper/seal kit from Brembo $70 ea x 4 = $280. If you want to go the top $$ route then you can purchase all the complete piston rebuild kits from anyone that sells the BREMBO rebuild kits but it will run you about $1600. Yeah that's right $1600 for just the pistons, scrapers and seals!!! You can go on and buy new crossover pipes for $150 ea x 4 = $600. Then you can purchase new slide plates $50ea x 4 = $200. See where this is going?? $$$$.....

For the painting, next time, I'd just tape off the entire surface where the pistons sit, leaving scrapers in place, and not bother making that look nice since no one can see it anyways. Of course if you're a perfectionist you will not do this and screw yourself like I did!!

My goal was to do the entire project for under $200. Here's what happened
Cerakote $85
Bleed Nipples $90 Not 100% necessary but I thought I'd splurge. DOH!!
HLVP gun $45
Centric kits $30 super cheap from rock auto. But doesn't have the 44mm so..
Brembo 44mm $280 oops!! did't know about this one!!

Thanks
Mike G.

sorry to hear about this mike, but now we know more about why you should not split calipers? perhaps this update should be cross-referenced to the other thread? or is this completely unrelated to splitting calipers?
Splitting M030 front calipers

I'm now thinking that the term splitting the calipers means something different to different people. For me it means to not separate the 2 halves. But I think it means not removing the pistons and seals to others??? Since I did NOT split the 2 halves I'm not sure the above statement is answered??

Same sort of thread. I think the key takeaway is that if you want to replace all the scrapers (Old style M030 Calipers) be ready to spend more than your stimulus check on that alone!! The newer style calipers 89+ don't use scrapers and the rebuild kits are only half as much! WTF?? NOT FAIR!! haha

That being said the Centric stuff can be used for all seals and scrapers except for the 44mm pistons. I'm also going to use Loctite 608 to hold the Centric scrapers in place. Just ordered the 44mm rebuild kit from Paragon $300. Oh well its not like we ever get in over our head with these cars??

Thanks
Mike G.

Great NEWS!!

Paragon doesn't have the 44mm kits in stock and they don't know if any exist!! Jason at Paragon is looking into it a little more today. Good thing its Cinco De Mayo.

at first this thread provided motivation to refresh the 951 calipers but now it's providing motivation to leave them alone. thanks for sharing and providing motivation mike.

Got a little bit of better news yesterday. Got lucky and found two 44mm scrapers from Racers-edge and two full 44mm rebuild kits from Auto Atlanta. Whew that was close! But for sure if you have the scraper type calipers you should know what kind of a PITA you are in for. Not sure if Europe has any stuff but it would still be stupid money if they did. But if you have the dust boot ones you can still get all that stuff but it will still be $$$$ about $800 for all the pistons, seals and dust boots!!!

More update.

Got some OG BREMBO scrapers and seals for the 44mm pistons in my hand. The scrapers fit as they should with a decent amount of press required. BREMBO stuff is way better quality than the Centric stuff!!
