1986 944 turbo value?

planning to sell my 86 944 turbo. it is build for street / track. 113k miles.

would appreciate thoughts on a sale price. need to get the 17" repo cup wheels back on it, plan to keep the Fuchs and Kinesis for the 911 project.

here is my build thread.
https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-944-turbo-turbo-s/842105-my-951-de-street-build.html

in summary, rebuilt engine in 2020, full head rebuild valves / guides \ springs, new rings, new rod bearings, WP, TB rollers, seals, etc. new clutch disc SPEC stage III. full INTRAX suspension and dual adjustable shocks and many polybronze and monoball suspension upgrades and other mods.

considered replacing the aulm seats with stock and keeping for a driver. but with the upgraded suspension just a bit too harsh for me as a driver. good beige / black stock interior other than seats. almost all accessories work, AC, PW, PDL, PM, etc.

such cars are a bit hard to value. in good shape overall, paint fair. comes with the little trailer / hitch. used it to drive to the track before I got an enclosed trailer.

Bob, unfortunately I don't think you are going to get out of it what you have put in.

You might try Bring a trailer, actually, or racingjunk.com

yea but getting too old for the track and the 951 just too harsh as a regular driver, and I want to finish my 911 project that has been 'sucking hind teet' for 7 yrs.

of course the 911 will be even harsher than the 951, but will be mainly a show car and take for fun drives. may take to a DE event but KNOW I will not have the skills to take it to its limits if I build the way I plan.

been retired long enough now to start needing to conserve cash.

so any through on value.

To the motivated buyer, it might be worth 15K to 20K.

To the bargain hunter, it might be worth 7K to 10K.

An auction will reveal the true worth.

I'm *no* valuation expert but I do watch 944 listings and sales pretty religiously.. and I'd say 12-16k.

You probably will net out ahead selling some of the more expensive aftermarket stuff (some of which is very cool and desirable from a quick look) separately.

I'd remove the decals/stickers before selling. Those, in particular, turn off buyers.

Bone stock 951's go the big bucks, souped up hot rods dont. Plain and simple. Return It to oem status and reap your rewards, sell all of your after market goodies and make another profit..

have you won any races? or placed in the top-3? even if it's a local club race, winning cars seem to increase resale value around here.

and sadly, freddie is right in that bone-stock 951's in pristine condition seem to retain higher value. there are always exceptions if the car is well known and/or has some sort of 'pedigree' and/or fame that a buyer is seeking. there's also a 'point of no return' where all-out race cars sell for way more but they still never recover the cost to get them there.

never raced just DE.

and I quickly learned how true the joke is about making a small fortune racing cars.

I bought this as a rolling chassis for $3500, allegedly rebuilt engine installed and everything else in boxes, to be my DE car to replace the 911 I was returning to stock. but the interior was just too nice to gut and almost all the accessories work.

so not worrying about winning races kept the interior.

I have seen it is the stock pristine Porsches that usually bring big bucks.

nashvegas comments help. I was thinking $12-15, hard to imagine getting over $15.. I will not give it away, don't need to. and I know to get a decent price it will have to be the 'right' buyer. but I do not intend to pull any of the mods off to sell, too much work.

so get it back to the shop in the next couple days, time to retention the belt and clean it up and remove all the stickers. if someone tracks it they can put back on whatever stickers they want.

Glad it was helpful, Bob. I didn't mention it, but the only other consideration might be to paint the center panel between the headlights the same color as the car. Might cost you a few hundred bucks (ish?) and a bit of time -- but I imagine having matching panels would also increase your buyer pool.

People _do_ seem to want 86's w/ Fuchs, so you've got that going for you!

I covered the panel, hood, and sunroof due to cracked paint and the panel was raw FG. I know the drivers door is not original due to different key, and some/most of the front clip had been repainted. cant tell what else was replaced.

rest of the paint is fair. will be up to new owner how far they want to take this.

thanks again.
