Windshield question

Was driving a few days ago, a semi veered over on to the shoulder a bit in front of me and kicked up a big rock. At 75 mph it has put a large crack in the windshield.
The problem is that I cannot seem to find a replacement that will fit. I see a lot of sources but with accompanying horror stories of fitment issues.
944-541-011-11 I think is the number from the PET. It also has the antenna built in.
Any one having knowledge of where to get one ?
Thanks Sox.
Ps. Our friends at saflite do not handle "Classic cars" any thing older than 20 years.

You ideally want a Sekurit windshield. There are 3-4 versions of this windshield for the late cars as I found out years ago when I needed to have mine replaced.

Here is what PET has to say:
1) Internal antenna without airbags - likely the one you want for your '86

2) Internal antenna with airbags '88+ - this has an additional layer of PVA in it

3) Internal antenna with airbags '87 only - no idea what the difference is from '88+

4) All of those options but with different tinting

Most windshield companies are cheaping out with an early non-antenna version and using a ton of urethane adhesive to fill the gaps on the sides. Not what you want for your car I am sure.

When I had mine done, I went through insurance (comprehensive) and made sure that the outfit I used used Sekurit glass.

No idea if it's still available or not, but I know it's not cheap.

You might want to ask Ian over at 9 4 4 o n l i n e - he may have some sources.

Thanks Keith,
I did talk to Ian (heck of a nice guy BTW), He recommends trying to get the dealership to get me one. My nearest dealership is 700 miles round trip. Am trying to get someone there to answer the phone
My insurance will cover it so cost is not an issue. everyone seems to have this one FW360GGN, which I believe is the cheap copy that does not fit.
I have a shop close to me only 70 miles away the guy there said he has installed one but it was a nightmare to fit. He recommends that I make sure that the windshield has a Porsche logo on it and is a Porsche part.
My car would take the one with the antenna in it and no airbag.

sorry to hear this sox, these windshields are getting rare. the last time i checked, the factory was no longer producing the laminated (airbag) windshield. here's another old thread that might help you:

by the way, a friend was parting out a car a long time ago and i managed to get the pristine factory windshield, but he cut the entire metal frame around it with a sawzall so it's still "installed" in the metal frame. i've been trying to figure out how to remove it without damaging the glass.

Finally got a hold of some one at the nearest dealership (nearest being a relative term). They think they can get one from Germany, maybe in 3 to 4 weeks
Keith I saw Sekurit glass windshield online looks like country of origin is Estonia ?
Any way will keep y'all updated.

the sekurit site does not show any plants in estonia so i would presume it's a counterfeit

After days of chasing Porsche dealership, with no one responding back....I seem to be stuck.
There are plenty of the FW.... windshields available, made in China, which I am not particularly a fan of.
One of the issues seems to be that with all the options on these things, I am confused as to which will fit.
Mine is tinted with antenna in it. It is a Sekurit glass. As far as I can tell what I need is a 944-541-011 11 ?
Can our local brain trust verify that?
Thanks
Confused and just a tad frustrated Sox

My understanding is that the smaller windshields are from the early cars. They will 'fit' with lots of urethane on the sides (my car is a good example of this...previous owner). On the aftermarket windshields, when you can find one for the late models, it will not have the antenna. I found a place in Dallas with aftermarket for my 86. A year ago it would have been about $500.

Deep Ellum auto glass in Dallas. They gave me a quote last year for my 86 951 by phone. The API on the web page is not working.

sox and kdjones; both of yours have the "triangle P" logo which shows it's a genuine porsche factory part. it's rare to see windshields with the triangle P logo on it these days.

i re-read my earlier post and thought the 1660 founding year must have been a typo but it turns out it's true:

"Key date
In October 1665, Louis XIV signed the Letters Patent, thereby officially creating the Manufacture des Glaces de Miroirs in Paris, one of 25 royal manufactories founded that year."

dme, talked to the guy at deep Ellum auto glass, its the Chinese glass, unfortunately it is all that I can find. He seems to be knowledgeable about the fitment and that it has a built in antenna.
He also remembered doing your car last year. So if you are happy with your results I am going to take them up on getting it done there, 1300 miles round trip...
Such are the joys of living in paradise.
