Water or Meth Injection
Has anyone looked into systems of water or methanol injection? I saw a 993 turbo a couple of months ago that had a system and I have never seen anyone with a 944 turbo do it. Any advice one where I could look into one? Not planning on buying one, I just like to read...

Hey man, Water or meth is a good way to keep temps down in high boost. Here is a link to a TOYOTA site that sells theses kits, just to give you a idea

I've been playing around with a direct-port water-injection system. Has 4 water-nozziles on the intake-manifold opposite the fuel-injectors. It's using a simple pressure-switch to actiave at 13psi. A little too crude as it injects too much water at low-RPMs and too little at high-RPMs. But it does allow us to run 25psi with a stock 944 Turbo on pump gas.
Working on a 3D-mapped (boost X RPM) water-injection computer next to see if we can't have more precise control on the water. More details as the testing continues. BTW, we've already blown up two engines testing this stuff (one with piston completely cracking through the block), so you can duplicate it at your discretion. |

Danno, why are the motors blowing too much water??

Yeah, this last motor we blew up completely cracked the cylinder and bent the con-rod. Classic hydrolock problem. The idea with direct-port injection was to introduce the water as droplets to prevent it from displacing any incoming air like water-vapor would. Then the heat of compression would vaporize the droplets and cause the cooling effect. I think what was happening was we were injecting so much water that it was blowing out the spark. When this happens, the engine would miss and stumble.
This last time, my tester kept his foot on the gas to force through it. Well, several revolutions in a row without inition would have fuel and water accumulate and raise the compression more and more with each stroke. Plus the liquid fuel & water sloshing around would definitely prevent the plugs from firing. So after a couple seconds of this, enough water built up to hydrolock the engine.

What about upgrading the ignition to a stronger system like MSD.
This might help you running different water/fuel ratio's

check out this website: http://www.aquamist.co.uk/index.html
I saw one on a 944T couple of weekends ago at VIR.

CDI is the only ignition upgrade I've seen that's been an improvement over stock. I think we were just running way too much water. We've put in nozzles of 1/2 the size and will start there. I've tried out the Aquamist system, very, very nice. I'm trying to replicate a similar controller for our direct-port water-injection. |
