Engine Block Port Question

Putting together 951 engine after rebuild . . .

There is a small port that looks like an oil return port on the engine block, lower rear drivers side of the engine, just below the Oil Separator / Fill Tube. Does anyone know what this is for?

It has been almost a year since I took this thing apart, and my memory is failing me now . . .

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I believe the Oil Separator connects to the block in 2 places, upper and lower holes in the side of the block. There's another hole down there that accepts the dip stick tube. Could that be the one you're looking at?

Nope, dipstick is already installed. It is almost directly under the oil separator/fill tube assembly.

Hmm - I have 2 engines on my garage floor, a 2.5 and a 3.0. Looked at both where the Oil Separator/filler plugs into the side of the block. Just behind the lower hole is a boss that is machined on the outside and looks like it is drilled on the inside. It looks like something ought to fit in there. But if I get down on my knees and peer into the hole, it doesn't seem to go anywhere. It seems to be blocked inside. Is that what you're referring to? If so, I don't know what it's purpose is, but I don't think anything connects to it.

Here is a picture of the port in question. It appears to be drilled through.

I forwarded your pic to Wes at Lindsey Racing. He says "nothing goes there thats a boss used during machining of the block".
