Can I use under 91 octane for '86 Turbo?

Hi guys, Long time since I last posted.

I have a 1986 944 Turbo. Just checking: is it possible to use a mid grade octane, such as 89 in NY area, instead of 91....for my daily easy driving?

Will 89 hurt the engine?

Thanks, Ave

I asked the same question a while back. Seems like most 951 guys have never even tried it (me included).

Anyways, if you're interested in reading what response I got before:
Knocking when using 89 octane gasoline?

I run it in mine all the time with no problems. It just runs better on 92 octane.

All you need is one run into boost causing knock to melt a piston.

NY, in the summer heat? Bad idea. Very bad idea.
