How Much Boost is Too Much?
Just had a head gasket go, and the P.O. of my 951 put an aftermarket chip in there...was wondering if this could be a possible cause...or is the threshold of the engine not approached by most aftermarket chips?

Boost level doesn't kill head gaskets - improper tuning does.
There's no such thing as "too much boost" per se. There is such a thing as "too much boost for one's fuel maps" or "too much boost for one's octane rating", however. There's also a practical limit to a particular turbocharger as to when you're efficiently compressing air and when you're getting diminishing returns (i.e. lots of heat and very little additional compression). There's a guy I'm aware of who has pushed close to 600 RWHP (yes, you read that correctly) out of a STOCK 2.5L turbo engine. There are extensive modifications to the turbo, head, ignition system, intake, exhaust and (as you might imagine) chips, but it's a stock 2.5L engine with stock pistons and internals. He has yet to break it. His current problem is that the head is physically lifting off the block due to the extreme amount of air/fuel mixture that's being compressed. If you popped the h.g., I'd suspect you went lean a bit.

well said jeff.
TazioNYC; it's not the chip, it's either the tune, bad gas, too much boost, or some other issues. do you know what boost level you're running? can you list all of the mods?
