Exhaust options

I had the turbo up on stands yesterday to do the slave, and noticed that the exhaust is litterly rotting away. I really don't want to burn a valve so I started to search eBay and the prices for used headers is amazing. I noticed this set.
OBX Header 88-91 Porsche 944 Turbo Manifold Exhaust : eBay Motors (item 190366488244 end time Mar-20-10 00:21:12 PDT) But would I be better off with a nice used set, or should I dish out the extra $? I'm not looking for performance, just something that will work.

Ohh the slave did the trick. She drives awsome!

Stainless is always nice, but the DP appears to be stock size. so that would dis-suede me. And used stock pipes would be much cheaper.

That does bring up a question though. I recently replaced (and upgraded to 3") the exhaust on my 951, which was getting pretty bad. It was ANSA brand, which isn't OEM. But I have never had to replace the exhaust on my 924S, and it still looks relatively clean of corrosion. That has led me to believe it IS stainless. And it DOES appear to be stock. Anyone know if that could be the case?

the stock exhaust on the 951 is stainless.

i'm curious why the porsche headers are not listed in the official obx site;

You know, I have always thought that was the case for practically all porsches, but that brings up the question of why my 951 had a rotting ansa exhaust system on it when I bought it. Why would someone replace an exhaust system that will last a lifetime, with a cheap, "stainable" one (of the same diameter)?

See if a magnet sticks to it. My exhaust is stock and a magnet will not stick to it. That means it is a 300 series stainless steel. Magnets stick to 400 series stainless steel which has a lower chromium content and is less expensive. A magnet sticks to my stock muffler and the outlet but that's it. Car is not up in air at the moment so I cannot check waste gate area.
