Auto Tensioner Problems
So I'm doing my timing belts on my 88' 944 turbo. I cannnnnnnot figure out a way to get this timing belt tensioner back in. The spring is too strong. I cannot all at once get that bolt to line up with the spring hat I cannot get it square at the same time to fit onto that dowel. There has got to be some kinda trick to get this thing back on. I've recruited half the neighboorhood and we cannot muscle it on.
How do I do it? Please someone speak from experience how do I achieve this? Thank you, Beefey |

the tensioner has a locking nut that is normally used to lock the tension in place after the spring has tensioned the belt. you can also use the same nut to keep the spring compressed and locked, which will make it easier to remove/install.

I'm retarded, after hours of scratchin my head the auto-tensioner is a two part unit and I simply had one of the parts and not the backing plate which is tucked up in there pretty good. That spring would have been nearly impossible to get back in there with the back plate still in the car... This is what I thought my tensioner was entirely composed of...
Thanks for your help, Beefey |

wow, you didn't have to take it apart like that. the entire assembly including backing plate removes as a single unit.

Well it's runnin now! I took it for a spin and it still leaks a bit of fuel. I'm gonna fix that fuel leak which I understand to be a pretty big project considering I need to drop the dif to get to the tank.
What else would liven this motor up again? New vacuum lines? TB seals? -Thanks Beefey |
