XP: Considering buying an s2 or turbo for track day project
XP from other forum:
I'm looking for a cheap late turbo or an s2 project to turn into a track day car. I'm looking for a straight good body without rust. I would love it if there is no sunroof. I don't care if the paint is bad or the interior is bad/gone. I need a late offset chassis. Fiberglass parts may be nice. I don't need any "go faster parts" as i have accumulated most of the parts I'm going to use for the build. However, I need front and rear s4 brakes/spindles and an LSD (turbo) transmission. I will keep the engine from the project car as a spare, or stick it in my DD if it is really good, so I would prefer a nice m44/52 engine, but a 3l or a m44/51 late 87 engine (with the larger oiling channels) could work as well. The the car should be roadworthy or very close to roadworthy. Electrics and mechanics should be good. However, the chassis may be tired, as I will change all bushings etc. anyway. No cage as they are not allowed on the road over here. It must have a clear title. I would not mind a nice set of 17" hollow spoke or other light weight wheels to go with the car. Track-day tires would be a plus. Does anyone on the west coast have anything interesting? The car will be exported from NJ. Pickup can be arranged.

It sounds like you know what your doing but I would try to stick with an S2. The turbos have tons of lag and the gearing is too long for real track work, especially where you don't need go fast parts a stock s2 will be comparably quick to the turbo.

Thank you for the suggestion, but I already have a lot of turbo stuff so I'm trying as best as I can to stick with it to keep all the stuff compatible.

944 turbo is not an easy drive...you will need to learn to brake with your left foot. That way you can stay in the throttle a bit...you'll figure it out

I few years back a member built a drift car. Platform a S2. The turbo's are nice, but for what you're wanting the S2 will be better suited.

Those that recommend an S2 as a better trackcar over a modified Turbo haven't driven one on the track. Turbo all day long. S2's are boring at Bat**** on the track. Sure, they're a fine little car for what they are but there are very few mods to extract more power from the motor and even then it's an extra 10whp at best (unless you build a proper race motor...=expensive). Conversely, for the turbo if one spends money on e.g. a 2nd hand Vitesse kit, you will have somewhere near 400bhp within your grasp. Of course you need supporting mods but for the fun factor the turbo is far better. S2 is perhaps more sensible.
