No Start, Need help

So check this one out. My car wont start. Cranks over fine. Fires every once in awhile.

Has spark
45psi at fuel rail (3bar)
Good compression
Timing marks line up
Tach bounce
Plugs look okay
Tried swapping DME(Both are iffy though)
Checked all MAF connections
Checked tune on piggyback
Checked piggyback connections

Whats going on? I just resoldered all the speed a reference sensor wires. Like I said, tach bounce and I have spark. 3rd or 4th time Ive done that.

I was pinned in 2nd gear when the car died. Pulled off and it wouldnt start, towed it home...

Whats next fellas.

Sounds like the fuel injectors are not being "fired" by the DME. Could be due to both of them being "iffy", or maybe a KLR issue - try bypassing it.

Naw, you can hear the injectors fire - he's got 72# injectors and they're really loud.

We're thinking maybe the rotor has come loose - the set-screw fell out? We'll check that here in a bit.

The only other thing that's weird is when we did the compression test, #3 cyl came up at about 150 PSI - all the rest were between 130-135 PSI.

The times we've tested the compression before, all four cyls were the same - 135 PSI or so.

I can't imagine what would give one more cyl a whole lot more compression all of a sudden. Perhaps it was just a bad reading?

Hello, You say both DME Relays are iffy. Go to the link below click on "D" and check the DME Relay or make the jumper.

Not DME relay. DME as in the ECU brain, computer.

Turned out it was the set screw in the rotor. Rotor was just spinning randomly and firing sometimes. Car runs fine now.

Fixed...

We fixed it today - it was indeed the the rotor. The set screw was gone and the rotor was loose. We put a new set screw in and it fired right up.

We didn't find the old screw. Trav runs with his upper belt cover off - we're hoping it simply fell out.

We'll make a thorough inspection of the belts soon.

Stupid cars... probably 6-8 hours of diagnostic work to replace a 5 cent part!

Some times - I mean most of the time, that's how it is with these cars. Glad to see you got her straightened out, though.

Maybe that rotor set screw is something I need to add to my road kit.

Thanks,
Larry
