The "final solution" for (AFM) intake upgrade.

ral weeks ago, I posted a pic of the deletion of the stock airbox/snorkle and J-boot. But that setup left one thing to be desired. And that would be the ability to draw air from somewhere other than the hot engine compartment. The germans are very "crafty" at coming up with solutions, but if I may brag a bit, I think I out did them on this one. First, you should probably read this post:

And maybe this one too:

Here are a pair of pics of the AFM with the cold air intake:

The flex pipe (with coupler) and the folded cone filter (which is too beat to use, now) were purchased at AZ (spectre brand). The filter was placed inside of the fender, with the rubber part sticking out into the engine compartment. It was mounted via sheet metal screws from inside the engine compartment. The plastic end of the alternator intake snorkel had to be notched out in order to fit the filter as I described. That is the dirty (lazy man's) method. One could opt for relocating it about an inch or so away from it's stock location, so as not to have to cut into it.

wouldn't the corrugations in the flex pipe disturb air flow through the pipe?

+1... you might want to check the air flow numbers on that contraption before anointing yourself smarter than porsche engineers.

I'm no expert in fluid dynamics, or anything, but it probably does. To what extent, would be the question. It IS 3" pipe though - compare that to the size of the stock snorkel end that goes into the fender. If you could get a piece of hardpipe bent for a good fit in place of the flexpipe, that would definitely be a better option. Since I am already well beyond using the stock AFM, I am just trying to put ideas out there for others to work with and perfect, for their own benefit.

Naw, all it takes is a little nerve, and maybe some narcissism.
