How much boost?
How high can i set the boost on my 951 before I risk blowing my car up? I've heard that you could run 15 or 16 lbs of boost, unless you get your car dyno tuned.
Does this sound about right? And if so, any suggestion as to where in the Washington state area i could get my car dyno tuned? Google isn't turning up many results.. Thanks in advance for the help! |

Sounds about right, but going higher would involve more than simply "having the car dyno tuned". And I seriously doubt that you will have any more luck here than you did on google, for finding a place that will do it for you. My thoughts are that you best stick with 16psi, or lower.

Well that's kind of a bummer haha i guess 16 psi isn't too bad though. What do you mean more than dyno tuned? Like an intake and rods and lifters and what not so the engine could handle the pressure?

No, 16 isn't too bad at all. It will get you around 300hp, with no other mods. I don't think you are getting the full gist of what dyno tuning means though. Intake and lifters should be fine, and the stock rods are good for at least 400hp. But for the 3-4 hundred range, you might want to consider things like chips, MAF conversion, fuel management, upgraded turbo & waste gate, 3" intake & exhaust piping, and various other things. I suggest you do lots of reading of the sticky stuff, like the 951 reference, and other stuff on clark's garage. These are not like your typical american V8 engines. Good luck.

Ah well guess i should have started with what i've got already.. I have chips, a maf with a piggy-back fuel controller (almost the same right? lol) upgraded turbo/wastegate, 3 bar fuel regulator, 72# injectors, and a 4"exhaust.

You should have. So you are already running at 15-16psi then? The MAF conversion that I have (autothority) runs at 20psi. THEY did the dyno tuning & it works fine. But I do have a knock counter that will tell me if the fuel I am running can't handle 20psi.

So let me see if I understand this right..
If I want to increase my boost I need to adjust my a/f mixture. My MAF meter has a built-in fuel controller so i can use that. But I need a way to monitor the a/f so I need a wideband or find someone to dyno-tune it right? And if I ever want to change the level of boost I need to re-adjust the a/f mix again? Also I need a knock counter in case of bad fuel? And in the case of bad fuel i turn the boost down but keep the a/f mix the same correct? Is there anything I missed? Thanks for the help, I jumped in to this project knowing way to little and now I'm trying to catch up ![]() |

Thanks again for all the help. I've got one last question.. Is installing a wideband O2 sensor really as easy as drilling a hole between the cat and the turbo exhaust, welding the thread in and screwing it in then connecting it to the guage? Or am i overlooking something?

That would have to be in the crossover pipe right? Everything I've read has said to put it after the turbo because the pressure in the crossover pipe is too high and it wears out the sensor quicker
