BOV orientation?

it seems that i remember some debate about this subject. what is the recommended orientation when installing the BOV?

?? Same as factory. Which valve are you putting in, a piston or diaphragm type?

That should be correct. Port opposite the vac nip goes to intake.

Yes, install the valve the same way as the original Bosch one. The port on the side goes to the charge pipe, the bottom port goes to the j-boot.

i installed mine backwards, so that in case the vac line ever fails the bov will still work pushing against the spring pressure.

The action on the valve will not operate "accurately" if installed like Nize has it. Yes, the "muscle" air can push the valve open, but when the valve is being used, the spring rate is all that will close the valve and it will move too slow if the spring rate is below or close to the given boost setting.

The whistling that Paulyy heard is probably due to the valve dumping the charge air then coming to the closed position very slowly to where it whistles right before it fully seats. This slowed movment of the valve is because the charge air is still pushing on the bottom of the valve and the spring rate isn't strong enough to move it qiuckly to the closed position.

vic, due to the nipple vac line, i thought that when it was holding boost, the pressure on the bov action would be the manifold (or boost) pressure + spring pressure, thus there would always be enough pressure to close the valve, even with a weak spring.

conversely, when it's dumping i thought it would be vacuum + back pressure (or muscle air) which would jointly overcome the bov spring pressure.

nize, i can see where you are coming from. i'll try it with that orientation and see if it makes any difference with A/F ration and/or butt dyno.
