Turbo s tranny price?

I have been looking to put a turbo s tranny in my 1987 944 turbo. It has 80k on it and is now going to be a track only car. If people would mind sharing I would like to know three things: 1.How much did you pay for your turbo s tranny? 2. How long ago? 3.How many miles were on it?

Thanks. Just seems easier said than done. I have found that most trannys with 30-80k in good condition go for $2000-2500 but I wanted to get other peoples input also.

That $2k-$2.5k range is about right for the turbo s trans, what with the lsd and the oil cooler, hardened gears etc

since the AOR tranny 'supply' is gradually decreasing, the cost trend is increasing.

Unless you've really upped the power and need the stronger AOR transaxle, consider the 5R transaxle instead. You get an oil cooler and an LSD but should find it for about $1,000 instead of the more expensive AOR version (IMO the AOR price is a bit out of proportion to the benefit these days).

The AOR version was standard on the S, wasn't it?

The AOR is standard on the S. But mine is a 87' turbo with no LSD. I do want the AOR because I will run this engine for one season and then put in a LS1 or LS6 next winter so power will go up.

Ahh, makes sense then. I'm running only a lightly breathed on '86 (K26/8 turbo, 15 PSI, 275 hp/300 ft-lbs at the wheels) and the 5R seems to be holding up just fine, but with the low-end torque of an LS1 or LS6 the AOR definitely seems like a better idea.

I have had to sit on several AOR transaxles for months while trying to sell them. Last one this summer had 87K original CA miles and was clean in great shape. That sold for $1,000 easy, before that 2 years ago I had a 98K mile great condition CA one that I had to wait about 4 months to sell for $1,500 Then I have seen e-bay AOR transaxles with high miles and a huge ???? mark that were greasy and rusty go for $1,800 so its a funny market when someone wants one and sees it they snatch it up. But when no one needs it right then you will have to wait to sell.

Thanks for the info. There is one for sale in WA but it is from and undocumented car with lots of greese on it. The only clean trans I have seen have been on eBay but I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I bought the AOR for my car and resold the 5R to a friend. By buying them both I got a discount and 2 trans fit on one pallet for shipping.

Where did you end up getting the trans from?

They were both from a guy who had cars in Shelton, CT. He had pulled the 5r out of his 86' 951 and the AOR out of a 89 turbo. He did a 6 speed conversion to both cars and had them sitting in his garage.
