it all depends on your overall goal.
What supercharger? twin screw? roots type? Centrifugal Supercharger? Turbo? what size? big? small? med? how big is big? You're going to get so many answers and no "real" answer

Go onto the 944/968 forum and post this and you'll get answers from Flash who runs his own 968 forums and also produces a S/C kit for them. So he'll give you a positive spin on the S/C version of course and they're probably a good thing. Really depends on what you want from the car. If it's more street oriented then I think the S/C would be worth investigating. If it's for the race-track, then the turbo will always rule supreme in the long run. AX is another thing again. S/C would be more suited for that. Not all that much 'open' info on 16v turbo cars. Basically if you want to build a motor with the most top end and ability to rev then 16v is a must. Even the most expensive best modified 8v heads flow substantially less than the stock 16v and you can run higher c/r with the 4v head. The 8v may have more early tq but I'm not really sold on that either.

I have seen 1 blue 16V Turbo 968 3.1L that was dynoing ~500 to the ground a few years ago in Long Island NY & is the car featured an a few magazine articles.
That car left such an impression that really woke things up for me to start thinking of my very own 2.5L buildup. Turbo as opposed to Supercharging would provide more Mid-band Torque and flexibility for top end power. The 16V breaths 27% better than the 8v. I have considered auto-crossing my CS some time for fun. Working on the exhaust cross over pipe and Intake manifold. A K27-6 and a larger K27/29 "Hulk" turbo (testing really for 911 Platform) are going to be retrofitted and also developing products and learning Motronic M2.1 along the way.... Flash968 is one of the experts here in the forum and his setup is very practical. I probably will need some tips from him as things move forward. Also look forward to getting support from my fellow Pelican family as the final parts & kinks get worked out before the real wrenching starts. Here is a great Link to some other 16V forced induction discussion on another Forum. 9m 968 supercharger conversion - 360, 430 or 480hp.... - Rennlist Discussion Forums Thanks.....

Nice intake!
I heard for the home brew 16v turbo it's best to use a 85/86 16V 928 head. Try finding a turbo, a good tig, and get something going with off self parts!

It looks like tht blue 68 is just running a S2 motor with custom pistons, stock s2 motronics, custom chip, mass air and a MSD boost retard box. The only custom thing to make is the exhaust crossover flanges for S2 headers and 951 intake to S2 runner weld job?

My friend's 'budget' 16v turbo. Keeps all the fastest Porsches in our club honest. Here he is running with a 997GT2RS who in a later session pulled over to let him pass. Watch in HD format. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eM5D0DYdZgk 2nd link at a shortened version of the track shows that some 8v cars can be fast too. Note 2:25 mark. >:-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDUQHYFqnNk
