Power Steering Questions?

Hey guys was wondering if anyone had any insights or advice on my power steering problem?

So I have a 1986 944 turbo that I just finished doing a full head gasket job on and have been running for about 4-5 months, but have a major issue with the power steering.

I have to fill ATF just about everyday do it leaking so much? what can I do or what do you guys recommend?

I had an 86 N.A. before where my power steering broke off and had to drive with manual steering so I wouldn't mind driving that way either just not sure whats the proper way of doing this is

note that the power steering rack is shot!!!

I would get a spare rack and a rebuild kit along with a set of hoses. Rebuild the spare and install it along with the new hoses and a new reservoir.

You need to change the reservoir because they have a filter in the bottom that isn't serviceable.

If it is still leaking after that, then maybe it's the pump, which can also be rebuilt and it isn't hard to do at a later date.

You could convert to a manual rack (I believe you'll need different tie rods though).

Power wash the rack and all the hoses get everything clean then look for the leak. You may save yourself a lot of money. If you don't clean it the leak will be hard to find.
