elec turbo WP alternative
 

during the process of refreshing this 951, had to replace the elec turbo WP.

new ones are a bit pricey and did not want to throw in another used one that may eventually fail.

searched ebay and found one for about $70, but did not have correct elec connector.

as the old WP was bad, just cut off that connector and wired it up. looks like someone had done this in the past also.

works great.

A water heater pump for older Mercedes vehicles works. The pump was used to circulate more water for the heater when the engine was idling if ambient temperature was low. There was one on my 1980 450SL, it costs much less than the Porsche pump, and it can be substituted. Don't know if they are still available.

I just searched ebay for it. found this one that works, but not a Porsche/oem. had to adapt the elec connector as shown in pics.

I had heard the Merc turbo wp would work, but did not have correct elec connector. not sure what the one I got was supposed to be for.

The most common MB pump used as replacement is # MBZ037173. It can be found at various online sources for $55-60. As mentioned, the electrical-connector is different. Not that difficult to cut off the wire from the old one and solder it to the new one.

There's an online-guide somewhere showing how to move the bottom pump-section from the old 951 pump to a different MB pump that has different hose-diameters as well.

One time, I actually bought a surplus 12v DC-motor for $10. The shalf was slightly too large and long, so milled it down to proper size and fitted the pump-section from the original 951 pump.
