Hi everybody! i'm new here on the board but I've been reading you guys for a while! A lots a good post in here!
So here's my problem: my car has been sitting around for over 2 years now because of a oil leaking turbo and a lac kof money, time and place to work. This summer a had a few dollars in the account and a tempo to work outside ( thanks to my mother in law!) so i took the turbo off the car for rebuild and while in there i order a M-tune also. Last week-end everything was backin place and ready for a test drive. The car started no probleme and was running fine but then find out the clutch pedal was soft. found out the slave cylinder is leaking. i take it off the car, do a quick rebuild with new seals, put it back in the car , bleed the system and everyting looks fine, The pressure on the clutch pedal went back to normal. here's the interresting part: even with the clutch pedal working fine ,the clutch doesn't disengage. so i look into the slave cylinder inspection hole, everythings works fine. I even made the fork(clutch releas arm) open manualy from under the car with a god pair of channel lock, it was open at maximum and the clutch was still engage. does anyone would have a clue? I was thinking about a bad pressur plate or bad throwoutbearing.... but no very inspired by the job ahead of me if a just wanna have a look in there. I wish there is a little stupid thing i didn't think of!! thanks for you time! it's greatly appreciate |

If you still have the rubber (OEM) clutch in there, put your finger in the inspection hole to see if you have a bunch of rubber debris. If so that's a pretty good indication of the clutch failure. Also have someone push on the clutch pedal while you watch in the inspection hole to see if the clutch moves at all. Make sure your car is on jack stand to do this and not simply a floor jack.

Turbos never had clutches with rubber centers.
More likely, one of the damper springs has broken and become jammed between the disk and the flywheel. Less likely, one of the friction surfaces has become dislodged and stuck between the disk and the flywheel.

i heard about the rubber part and read a bit about it didn't seem like my probleme since it would be other symptoms (from what i read) also don't have any rubber debrit already check! but thanks for the input!
Tried to see the clutch open from inspection hole, nothing seems to move, not even slightly..... so from what you say 944ecology i will have ''fun'' taking everything apart to see what's wrong in there!! Will do!! but maybe not now cause winter is comming here in montreal , it's getting cold outside! another thing...from reading , i've found the fork( releas arm) is sometime bending ...... i've scratch this possiblility out cause it was working fine before..... I guest i'll found out when i'll get the thing apart anyways.... thanks for the quick reply guys! I will keep you informed if i decide to start the job before winter! |

Problem Solve!!
i had 2 people telling me the clutch might just be stick in there(overtime with the humidity). I doubt it.... but tried there solution. I jack the back of the car , put it on stand, start the car in first gear (the rear wheel spinnign freely). I gave some gas and hit the brake with clutch pedal to the floor. Guess what! after a ''TOC'' sound the clutch was free!!! and work fine for the rest of the afternoon so happy not having to take everything apart! thabks you guys! |
