Brake fluid reservoir seal?
After running in my first DE event, I found the top of the master cylinder reservoir covered in brake fluid after each run. The fluid level is right between the min / max lines, so it's not overfilled. When I did a brake fluid flush prior to the DE, I was surprised to see there is no o ring or gasket sealing the fill cap to the reservoir on my car, a 1988 951. I don't see an o-ring or gasket listed on Pelican or the other parts sites, so I assumed there just isn't supposed to be an o-ring there. Or did a previous owner maybe loose it? Should there be one there?
Thanks for any help |

I experienced the same problem on my first two track days with a 951 earlier this month, and even had brake fluid spilling over and way down, causing it to burn and smoke. I'd love to know the answer to this.

could it be due to the sealing surface on the cap itself? it might be time to replace the cap. part number 951 355 351 00 available here;

A Mercedes cap also fits but you will lose the low fluid warning aspect of the cap. I used to substitute the cap from my 1980 450SL when I took the 944 to the track. It does not leak and is one piece except for the gasket.

I ran my first track event with a brand new resevoir and cap two weeks ago. It was moist at the end of each run. I have that cap and the power steering resevoir on my list of things to wipe with a rag at the end of each day.

I think I found the exact aftermarket part needed for $2.00 (FTE 34-32-1-102-798-M33). The ATE cap / float stem / rubber gasket looks to be identical for some VW Rabbit, BMW E30, and Mercedes E300 assemblies, however, the ATE reservoirs looks different for these cars. |
