How to remove alternator fan?
I've removed the pulleys.
![]() The fan will not slide off by hand. Is it ok to use a puller using the oval slots? |

Also are the 3 studs screwed into the fan or the part behind it containing the bearing?

the studs are screwed into the fan bearing, I took mine out , removed the fan housing and made a box like structure out of 2x4s the fan rested on those, I used Gibbs and Wurth Rost off on the fan to bearing surfaces, let it soak in a good while and then a couple of pops with a soft hammer and the alternator dropped from the fan onto the cushion i placed beneath it

Yes, I used a three prong puller on mine and it came of with no issues and no damage to the fan.

I tried the 2 X 4 method of 964targac2. Put a pipe on the bearing housing and had to really wack it many times to force the bearing housing out of the fan. No evidence of corrosion between the two. Not sure how I will put it back together but will try heating the fan and cooling the bearing housing.
