Seat dyeing question

I have black leather seats in my 96 993. Has anyone ever had their seats dyed (same color) and if so, how successful is it.

I know it would depend on the shop, but overall does it have a good appearance?

Thanks in advance.

You have black seats and wan to redye them black?

Just buy some black KIWI leather dye and use it on the areas that are starting to show wear. I used this on my SC (full leather interior) and it did a great job. Since this is a dye and not a shoe polish cream it will not stain your clothes or even smell funny.

Good Luck,

George

Wow! Kiwi Shoe polish seems pretty daring. It really works?

Yes - as I said, I had good success with this. I put it on my SC's leather seats, door panels, knee pads and dash. But pay attention to buy KWIK Leather Dye, not shoe polish. Shoe polish will be greasy, stink and mess up your clothes. This leather dye is very low viscosity and soaks into the leather, truly dying it.

Call Larry at Car Care Specialties. Discuss what you want and he'll have the right products to make the seats look perfect.

No affiliation. Just a long time satisfied customer.

it might be worth talking to the guys at leatherique www.leatherique.com (they are very helpful on the phone, too). Their customers do a lot of leather restorations.

Just had my Tan leather seats repaired by a company called Fibrenew. They sealed up the cracks and re-sprayed to just about a perfect color match then applied a top coat which prevents the color from rubbing off. Looks great. I had previously tried several times to respray with a leather dye. It always rubbed off.

+1 on Color-Plus. I didn't do an entire seat but the product worked great for worn areas on my steering wheel and bolsters.

That looks great, Stealth. And surflex doesn't rub off either.

When I bought my 88 coupe with 80k+ miles, the PO had redyed the seats with Surflex. Interior was linen, FWIW. Looked awesome.

My steering wheel (black) was looking kinda ratty when I bought my 964 this spring. Used Kiwi leather dye on it and in 2 minutes it looked great. Well not perfect, but a LOT better.

I've used colorplus and highly recommend it. They have a special porsche black. Hey if the KIWI doesn't work you can always use colorplus over it.

So I take it that one could successfully dye the leather surface of an airbag using Surflex?

Once dry/cured, will the newly-dyed surface allow normal Leatherique treatment every so often?
