993 DME Connector Pins - how do you remove them?

I have a 1995 993 motor with its factory DME & harness. The motor is installed in a kit car, and the harness is about 3 or 4' too long - so rather than package an unwieldly snake of wires, I'd like to shorten the harness. Ideally, pull each pin, clip the wire, crimp on a new pin, and re-insert.

Problem is, I cannot figure out how to remove the pins from the DME plug. I have no issues doing this for the run of the mill TE-amp connectors. But the same tool (I've tried several of them) fails miserably with the DME plug. The pins won't budge. There must be some way of removing them?

I am assuming the pins are the TE-amp 964286 or similar, basically the same thing that's in most of the other low power connectors on the motor.

Well I just ground the barbs off a new connector, crimped a tail of wire to it, and stuck it in an open location in the DME plug. I can't get that one out either!

I conclude that the housing is designed to never allow a connector to be removed. Rather irritating.

A few pics of a new connector, as well as the housing.

In my experience with these connectors if you insert a very small flat screwdriver into the small
opening below the clip from the front this will release the catch and the wire and connector may be removed.
On another note if I were you I would try and wrap the harness up to take up the slack and store it instead of altering it , should you someday want to remove this engine and go to something else it could make it difficult to market ...just an FYI, Bert
