How would one reset an odometer?

I recently purchased a brand new speedometer on ebay for my '91 C4 and was told that the mileage on the odometer would automatically change to what was stored in the on-board computer. This has not happend, but the speedo seems to function properly. Any truth to this? If not does anyone know how a fairly able tech might do this himself?

Thanks,

Louis

I do not see how the onboard odometer could possibly synchronize with the manual speedo odometer...but could be wrong.

As for manually setting it, it can be done. Remove the speedo, pry the bezel off, and be very careful when removing the needle...a little more disassembly and you can manipulate the tumblers with a pick for each of the numbers. Not the simplest procedure, but can be done.

Check out Robins 993pcar website, I think he outlines the gauge removal and disassembly process when he mounted his radar detector display in his tach.

You could also send it to North Hollywood Speedo or other similar specialists...

Take it to a speedo shop and have them match the new with the old values. If you pry off the bezel on you own, the next person to see the home pry job will suspect the opposite and say someone has rolled back the mileage.
