Does a later (non 964...) Tiptronic fit on my 964 ?

Hello,

Does anyone know if a later Tiptronic wil fit and work on a 964 ?

I mean a later Tiptronic as in one from a 996 or late 993 ?
(Or is a 993 Tip also a 4 speed ??)

Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance,

Dirk

If any a 993 may fit. I would not think a 996 would do it. I am sure someone has done it. Get creative with web searches and you will find something.

993 tip unit is also a 4 speed, in fact, I think it is the same unit in the 964.

The 996 unit is a mercedes gearbox, the 964 and 993 units were ZF boxes.

I have never heard of anyone putting a G96 into an earlier car. I suppose it could possibly be done with some creativity.

A 2001 911 turbo auto will bolt up, its a 5 speed, I've often thought of this as a nice solution especially in a 964 C4

"for the first time in a 911 Turbo, Porsche offers the Tiptronic S five-speed automatic transmission as an option."

We will be doing this exact conversion to a 964 tiptronic early next year. The client wants 4WD and we obtained a 996 turbo transmission, drive shaft, tube and front differential. When we start the project, we will outline it here

Hi TRE Cup. I'm really interested to find out if you did that 996 turbo transmission to a 964 tipronic? I'm researching for upgrades to my setup. Cheers Jon

Hi- we never started the project beyond purchasing the 996 turbo tip trans, drive shaft, and ECU. (client decided not to go ahead with it- want to buy the package?) So i can't say if it is an ez swap or not. I might be able to measure the two boxes here regarding dimensional fit.
