R53 relay testing
Hello all,
I'm new here, thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge about cars! ![]() Heads-up, I'm not handy at all, I just started a few DIY projects on my 964 -following some tutorials posted here- but I'm learning on the way. Right now I'm working on my high pressure windshield washer system that doesn't work. - checked fuse #24 -> OK - motor running when applied 12V outside the car - now checking the fuse R53. My electronic level is similar to a middle-schooler, so I spent several hours over the past couple of days reading about how a relay works, but I think I'm still missing a lot of info. Not knowing this 6 pin relay, I checked the resistances between the different pin to try to find the control ones. I got a resistance between pin 15 and 31 so this is where I plugged my power supply, with Neg on 31. I hear two clicks, and it seems the relay doesn't stay closed with current applied. I am not sure whether I'm testing it wrong, or if the relay is actually defective ![]() Here is a short clip: https://youtu.be/Gz7AE2aU45g Thanks for your insights! |

You will need the sheet #8 of the wiring diagram for the 964 equipped with wipe-wash cleaners.
R53 is the fluid pump relay. ![]()
