996 on board computer option - 2001

I just took delivery of a 2001 996 C2. The car is beautiful, with only 5500 miles (verified through carfax).

About the only thing it's missing in my eyes is an on board computer that gives various info such as outside temperature, distance to empty, gas mileage info, etc. I know that the cars with the OBC option have an additional stalk on the LHS of the steering column, the readout in the tach LCD, plus the obvious computer and harness.

Has anyone here looked into retrofitting an OBC into their 996 after the fact? Any idea on what it would cost and what parts are involved?

there is a knowledgeable fellow, user name " Tool Pants " , that posts mostly on the Boxster Board here. I think he has done the retrofit of an OBC on a Boxster. I'm sure a 996 would be very similar. Do a search here and on rennlist using his user name.

Thanks maxnine....it looks from that thread that there's the potential of turning on the outside temp display without having the obc? If I could do that, it might be enough.
