Does anyone sell rebuilt long blocks?
I don't think I'm up for a complete engine rebuild... Does anyone sell a rebuilt long block?
Story: My flood damaged 24,000 mile, 3.6 motor runs well in my ’93 C2, but I found some metal shavings in the oil and a small 3x3mm chunk of steel on the oil plug after hearing an ominous clunking noise. The engine has run well though 3 oil changes where I warmed the engine for 5-minutes and revved her a bit – just trying to flush out any water. Compression test while cold, no sparkplugs in, and a fresh battery charge is around 200 PSI per cylinder, except for one that is 165. Oil pressure is good. Engine runs fine. However, I have little confidence in it at this point… Thus, I need to crack her open to see what is damaged. Or, I buy a rebuilt long block which is more on my skill level. I could drop in a complete used engine, or a long block, however, I again have that unknown issue. Any thoughts?? I’m actually pissed at the local shop wherr I dropped the car off for computer resets and some diagnostics along with checking the oil system. The first thing on their list was to check the entire oil system. They took the car for a 7 mile spin and told me it overheated and my thermostat was stuck. Well, I though they’d check the system out more carefully than taking it for a spin... I’m not blaming the engine damage on them, but it seems careless of them. |

Hmmm, no response. I'll try the engine rebuilding thread. Thanks anyway! -Don

Steve Timmins at www.instant-g.com sells crate motors for 3.6 conversions. You could check with him to see if he would do just a longblock.
If you have shavings in your oil system you will probably need to flush the complete system out really well before installing a new motor. Good Luck. Maybe someone with more knowledge than me will pipe in here.......
