993 Secondary air induction supply = top end rebuild

My check engine light came on and I have been informed that my secondary air induction supply needs to be replaced (basically a top end rebuild) from carbon build up. A 993 factory problem-
Has anyone had any experience with this?

Known issue. Check out a DIY procedure at p-car.com

Don't know if mine is affected (probably all 993's are) but a '95 has OBD1 and does not throw the CEL (check engine light).

A constant topic of discussion over on the Rennlist 993 board.

there are several different failure modes
  • pump
  • lines
  • blocked ports

most can be alleviated w/o a top end rebuild, but in the worst case scenario, worn valve guides contribute to the blocked ports in the exhaust, this leads to a full to end rebuild

Read my description of the problem in the 9th post down.

Cool

This is a HOT topic. Do a search for CEL, carbon, obdII etc. and you will get hits that discuss this in depth. Also a topic over at Rennlist and even in Excellence magazine!!

Hot Hot Hot!

Do NOT get a top end re-build until you read these posts and get informed. It could save you big $$$!

Just me thoughts...
