Undertranny Tray Did you remove it?
Many on this board and Bruce Anderson say we should remove the under engine tray from our 993s. I have done so. I am currently tracking an oil leak so I have also removed the under transmission tray. My SC did not have one. I wonder if we should also leave this one off?? Here is a pic of mine.

Your SC wouldn't have had one, they were 993 and maybe 996/997 specific. Most on the Rennlist say to remove because of heat issues. I know mine has been removed by the P.O. It was a noise issue that Porsche was trying to deal with when they installed the tray.
I haven't heard anything about removing the tranny tray and if there's any benefit, maybe a search..? Sure makes it easier to check things out with just the engine tray removed, the larger tranny tray might have some aerodynamic aid that was designed in the whole drag/lift scenario.

I noticed there is a scoop on the tranny tray. I think I will put it back on now that I found my oil leak. It may help cool the tranny with that scoop. Thanks!

They were put there for aerodynamic reasons. The tranny tray is ducted to blow air through the engine compartment. I work on several down here in FL without heat issues. Take it off if it makes you feel better.
The 964 was the first air cooled car to have the "belly pans" AFJ

The 964 had a few mods to reducs noise... the belly pan reduced road noise, the dual mass flywheel (uggh!) helped quiet down driveline noise...
In order to detect where a 964 is leaking Zimmerman (used 911 story) states the first thing to be removed is the belly pan. It can most likely be left off indefinately, as stated in previous posts.

I have a 964 and left it off. I don't like the exhaust valves baking with no air circulation!

Gentlemen. There are two belly pans on the 993. One which I have removed and will leave off goes under the engine itself. The other which I removed but have since put back on goes under the transmission and has a large scroop on it that rams air onto the tranny. I will send an e-mail over to Bruce Anderson at Excellence Magazine and see what he thinks. Thanks for the input!
Now if I can only get rid of this flue bug!! ![]() ![]() ![]()

If anyone has a spare tranny undertray, I need one. Don't need the engine one, just the tranny one. Thanks.
