warning lights

I recently parked my 964 for 2 weeks, and my headunit (unbeknownst to me) draws about 1/2 amp so it drained my batt. After a jump, the car ran fine but random warning lights (mostly abs/interlock, sometimes a flash of other lights) would kick on and the central light doesn't turn off when I hit the reset. The volt regulator seems to work (no major volt difference between idle and high revs). I even put a new batt. Still, weird lights. Any ideas or fixes?

You should never jump a dead battery. Probably a good idea to have the system checked with a Bosch "Hammer" or PST. It maybe a system failure that was either coincedental or caused by jumping the battery.

I have nice blue arcs coming from some plug wires. Since the ABS/diff lock work the few seconds or minutes before the christmas tree turns on, and the car runs fine, I suspect it is the bad plug wires. Before I spend the $500, does that seem a likely cause?

If you have blue arcs coming from the plug wires, replace them whether or not they are the cause of your other symptoms. However, I have heard that bad plug wires can cause weird voltage spikes through all the grounds, and this can really confuse or even fry your ECU. It is quite possible this is the cause of your warning lights. But replace the plug wires regardless.

Yes, ignition system faults cause warning lights to come on, so you need new plug wires, and probably caps and rotor arms too.

Put new wires in, no more christmas tree. New plugs, too. Far more responsive, feels like it has several more HPs. Downside is I can't use my AM radio as an audio tachometer anymore.
