Another radio question or two

Yes, I know, WTF am I doing listening to the radio in a Porsche, but ...

Am I anywhere near target when I suspect that the real problem with the crappy sound is less the stock radio in my '93 C2 and more the weak amplifier that hides under the passenger seat?

Or is it the speakers?

And can another (multiple) CD player (other than the one that was an option in '93) be connected up?

Too cheap to replace everything, hoping to need only bits.

Speakers are 12 years old - dried out and not producing good sound - its not a huge deal to change them all and far cheaper than adding electronics only to find you have to do the speakers anyway!
